As 2000 came to a close we planned a trip to the mountains to hang out with two other couples and to watch the Oregon Ducks beat the LongHorns in the Holiday bowl. But instead of the game, what the women watched was our normally sweet and thoughtful husbands turning into ManiacFans! They yelled. They cussed. They ignored us. They were obsessed. On the spot we made a list of things we wish we would have known before marrying a ManiacFan. This blog is dedicated to sharing what we’ve learned over the last 10 years of surviving the Duck Insanity.

If only I had read your blog prior to marrying my insane Duck… if only. I realize I didn’t know either of you prior to the wedding, but I feel you should have shared your lessons learned out of compassion for what I was getting myself into. Truth be told, I knew I was in trouble last year after the Stanford game (a phrase that still can’t be uttered in the Leonard household). He seemed like a normal fan until that point. As the Ducks trailed he went from yelling and throwing things to total insane silence.
The real kicker was on our honeymoon. Yes, we planned a honeymoon that coincided with the last two Duck games of this season. We managed to watch the first one LIVE from Thailand at 6 am. Because we couldn’t get the Civil War on TV, he sat in a computer lab hitting refresh over and over to see the score. Romance, pure romance. I would appreciate any advice you can offer regarding how to survive my second season married to Maniac Duck Fan.
